Partner David Bigge discusses the future of interstate dispute resolution

Partner David Bigge recently delivered the featured speech on interstate dispute resolution at an arbitration event sponsored by Fountain Court Chambers.

In his speech, David affirmed the continuing and important role of international arbitration to deliver “opprobrium” for internationally wrongful acts committed by States. He stressed, however, that modern modes of arbitration are not as well suited for the prospective resolution of disputes between nations, and more flexibility is needed – drawing on older models of state-to-state dispute resolution – to provide an incentive for State leaders to arbitrate conflicts before they escalate.

Global Arbitration Review published a full summary of David’s remarks, available here: https://globalarbitrationreview.com/article/former-us-disputes-chief-calls-less-legalised-inter-state-process
