Wordstone’s Washington D.C. office expands with two new team members

Earlier this month, the firm’s Washington, D.C. office welcomed two team members.

Karen Fassi Wilbur, who joined the firm as an associate, focuses on international arbitration and dispute resolution. Her background spans investor-state and international commercial arbitration, public international law, and anti-corruption compliance, with roles in both the private sector and international organizations in the United States and France.

Karen has experience in proceedings conducted under a range of institutional rules, including ICSID, ICC, LCIA, and AAA-ICDR, across disputes in the construction and engineering, energy and natural resources, agribusiness, and telecommunications sectors.

Karen previously worked for Wordstone as a law clerk in the DC office. Before joining the firm, Karen worked as a law clerk in the international arbitration practice group of a leading US law firm.  Earlier in her career, she served as a consultant with the World Bank Group’s Integrity Vice Presidency and as a judicial intern to a federal judge at the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.  She also completed legal internships with the Organization of American States, a French multinational energy company, and a Brazilian law firm in France.

Celia Cañete, who joined as a foreign associate, focuses her practice on international commercial and investment arbitration, including proceedings involving sovereign states and state entities. She regularly acts as counsel in proceedings administered by the leading arbitral institutions, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations, including proceedings under the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL, ICDR, CAS, SCAI and CAM Rules.

Her practice includes arbitration support proceedings, including interim measures, recognition, enforcement, and setting aside of awards. She also has experience as tribunal secretary in commercial arbitrations.

Celia has advised in disputes relating to engineering and construction projects, energy, agribusiness, post-M&A and sports; involving multiple jurisdictions, complex technical issues and high-value claims.

Before joining Wordstone, Celia worked five years at a leading firm in Madrid. Previously, she had worked for over a year at a boutique firm specializing in arbitration in Geneva.
